Stadium Management South Africa is proud to host a Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier when Bafana Bafana play Ghana at the FNB Stadium on Monday the 6th of September at 18:00
The FIFA World Cup in Qatar gets underway from the 21st of November until the 18th of December 2022 and South Africa will be looking to make their fourth appearance at a FIFA World Cup.
Bafana Bafana first qualified for the FIFA World Cup in France 1998 and FNB Stadium was the scene of great celebrations when Phil Masinga scored the only goal of the game against Congo Brazzaville in a FIFA World Cup qualifier in 1997 which booked South Africa’s ticket to France 1998.
Bafana Bafana qualified for the 2002 FIFA World Cup in South Korea and Japan and Siphiwe Tshabalala gave South Africa their golden moment when he scored the opening goal of the 2010 FIFA World Cup against Mexico at the FNB Stadium.
Ghana have a proud FIFA World Cup history having qualified for the global spectacle in 2006, 2010 and 2014.
Bafana Bafana were in the same group with Ghana for the 2021 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Ghana won the group on this occasion and the teams played out to a 1-1 draw at the FNB Stadium in March 2021.
There have been 13 previous meetings between South Africa and Ghana.
Bafana Bafana lead the head to head 5-4 and the teams have played out to a draw on four occasions.
Orlando Stadium will also host two FIFA World Cup qualifiers when Namibia play Congo Brazzaville on the 2nd of September at 18:00 and Malawi play Mozambique on the 7th of September at 15:00
No spectators will be allowed at the FNB Stadium and Orlando Stadium during these FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
